SOUND ART INSTALLATION
Ruchi Mital’s Bells and Bridges is a 5 minute sound piece about everyday transportation, transformation, and inspiration. Through this aural journey from Brooklyn to Manhattan and back into Brooklyn again listeners step out of one world into others—the constant city experience.
In our world of ipods and self-selected soundtracks, Bells and Bridges brings to us the music of the city, which is an always changing soundscape that also changes us. It reminds us that we ourselves are the receivers, selectors, creators and re-creators of the music we hear.
This installation, composed of multiple headphones, creates an intimate inner experience and also reflecting the way in which the sounds were captured, recorded, and combine our headphone culture with the soundscape of New York City. Bells and Bridges reinforces the relationship between the personal/collective experience. The listening installation will be on display through out the duration of the exhibit.
